Originally written in 13 installments, the Waldgrave series has now been condensed into 3 novel-length books. This book is Part 1 of 3 of the Waldgrave series. What would you do if you found out that you were a stolen child? Raised to believe that the entire world was her home and to respect the many cultures around her, Lena Collins never expected to find herself a key figure in a political war. When a train accident sends Lena to live at the Waldgrave property with her uncle, it isn’t long before she begins to suspect that she hasn’t received the whole truth about her extended family. Family portraits have been removed from the walls, areas of the house are off limits, and some rooms even seem to have been walled off completely. No one wants to talk to her, especially where the subject concerns her relatives. Even Uncle Howard refuses to discuss his life beyond his familial connection with his niece. That is, until one day when the grounds keeper tell her that she was stolen as child from the maternal half of her family, who are powerful religious and political figures in a hidden community of telepaths. However, due to their conflicted status in the world of the Silenti telepaths, the Darays have been hunted and assassinated to near extinction. Lena is now the last in the family line. They want Lena back, even if it kills her.

I rarely leave a negative review, even if a book has a lot of issues, but this book was not worth reading. The worst sin is that it ends in a cliffhanger - nothing is wrapped up by the end of the book. The story wasn't even interesting enough for me to care about what happens in the next book. The plot crawled. The characters are shallow, never developed past their few quirks or hang-ups. The author had a fun idea to begin with, but did not develop it.

Arrival of the Traveler Waldgrave A L Tyler 9781466254800 Books Reviews

I gave up. I made it to chapter 13, but I couldn't get interested in any of the characters or anything they were doing. Nothing seemed to be happening and I finally realized I wasnt going to get better and I wasnt going to waste my time. The boring conversations just kept going on and in. Deleting from my kindle.
I couldn't even make it the middle of the book. it was that bad. I've never read a book that where i was so bored from reading it that I was falling asleep. I get what the author was trying to do but it was a hot mess.
I dislike the fact that the book seemed to end abruptly. Even with books in a series, the writer, in my opinion, has to give some form of closure while leading the reader to continue with the series. If that does not happen, the reader may feel one book is only a ploy to get you to purchase the rest of the series.
I am completely addicted to young adult and adult paranormal books so when I start something I have to finish this first book was depressing and oppressive yet I trudged forward needing to know what happens where the fun would start or the intrigue and story line peek...never happened....wasted 3.99 on part two.
I found the main character a bit annoying. She would grow and then take 8 steps back, because of David/Griffin. I felt like strangling her every time she'd state something like "David/Griffin" would never hurt me. Like he hurt her over and over again, emotionally. She's attracted to me and I get it. I was attracted to a jerk too, but after so many times, you smarten up. I first time he laid a hand on her, she should have smartened up. But that's the thing about love. It's never reasonable. I have a strong dislike of David, but I don't hate the guy. I think that there is a part of David that cares for her, even if he tries real hard to suppress it. I think she will end up opening the portal and that all this male heir stuff is pure crap. Plus, what kind of story would that be for a heroine story. At the end of the books, she's trying not to be a damsel in distress, but she still is. I will purchase the next book to see how the story develops, but if I continue to feel frustrated with the female protagonist, I will quit the series. And those of you who think YA literature is only for a YA audience, then why are adults doing the reviewing in all the main publications? Because YA can be read by anyone. It just means that the lead is a young adult, not that it's suitable for ONLY young adults.
How do I begin. Will I buy the next book....probably, so I guess it wasn't all that bad, but GOSH it really was a frustrating read. The first few pages had me so confused and asking myself, "what just happened?" The author would jump from Lena telling the story to Howard telling the story, back to Lena and a little about her and then back to Howard an a little about him all in like 3 pages. A few times I had to stop and re read sentences to see...who's talking...who's telling the story? I am pretty sure the author was trying to familiarize the reader with the characters. However, instead it made the story choppy....and, instead of really getting to know the characters, the readers got little bits and piece here and there and everywhere. I still don't have a good grasp on Lena or any of the other characters. By the end of a book, I usually feel like I really know these characters. I can feel what they feel. I am living what they are living. I didn't get that AT ALL from these characters. I felt like I was just reading 'about' them, not living out the story with them. I did really like the story and idea of the Silenti. I think the author did a good job with creativity and making the Silenti believable and not an idea that was copied over and over again that one could find in other books. I really wanted to like Griffin, but man, he is just an ass. I will read the next books in the series as I liked the story line. However, I am not reading it because I will die if I don't find out what happens to the main characters because I don't feel a connection with them. I feel the author really missed the target here.
This was one the most excruciatingly painful works I have had to get through, in quite some time. The politics and complicated hierarchy described in this novel regarding Silenti culture was over done. Not to mention, the patriarchal aspects of it thoroughly turned me off; especially the abuse Lena received by Griffin and her so called male guardians. Terrible paradigm to promote in this day and age, thus if you're a fan of strong feminist inspired characters, pass this rubbish by. One good thing I can say about this book was that it helped me fall asleep quickly each night. Sorry but it was terribly dull and slow, and I could care less about reading books 2 and 3.
